Played for Villa: 1936-1947
Position: Left half
Appearances: 153
One of the rising stars of Villa's 2nd Division campaign, Bob Iverson was an attacking defender in the tradition loved by fans. He signed to Villa from Wolves in late-1936, and took over the number 6 jersey from Alex Massie. His impact was immediate and he barely missed a game while on the club's books. Contemporary accounts describe him as a popular character who liked to crack jokes and who was also an enthusiastic pianist. Iverson once broke the League record for the fastest goal in a match, netting inside 10 seconds against Charlton in 1938. During the War, he represented Villa 181 times, and presumably adopted a more attacking style as he returned 57 goals (compared to just 12 in his full senior career). He was still at Villa for numerous post-War fixtures but his career was winding down come 1947. He took up a coaching role at the club but tragically died in 1953, aged just 42.
