Played for Villa: 1912-1915
Position: Wing half
Appearances: 68
Villa midfielder who was signed from Bolton in 1912, and who cemented his place in Villa's history by heading home the only goal in the dying moments of the 1913 FA Cup final. That same season, and the one that followed, he earned League runner-up medals, but the advent of World War I ended his time at the top of English football. Wounded in action, Barber was theoretically still on Villa's books but would never again represent the club. When peace came, he turned out for a succession of much smaller teams, five games for Walsall being the best he would achieve. He died at the age of 39.
