Played for Villa: 1924-1934
Position: Centre half
Appearances: 263
Coal miner Alec (or Alex) Tabot signed with Villa in 1923, but in his first season appeared just once, a Cup win at Swansea. He didn't really cement his place until 1928-1929 when he started to appear regularly, and was on almost every team sheet for several seasons during which he was appointed captaincy. He wasn't shy of sprinting up-field, and scored seven times in that period, including one in an impressive 5-2 win at Highbury. A six-footer, he was amusingly nicknamed Tiny, flanked as he was in Villa's back line by the even taller Jimmy Gibson and Joe Tate (the three of whom were recognised as one of the great combined forces in English football). Talbot's position at the heart of Villa's defence was eventually relinquished to record-signing Jimmy Allen in 1934, whereupon he moved to Bradford Park Avenue.
