Played for Villa: 1919-1927
Position: Inside forward
Appearances: 95
Younger brother of Clem Stephenson, George followed a third sibling, James, in representing Villa after the War. George never actually played alongside his brothers, debuting in the first team in December 1921, just after the other two had left, and making only spoadic appearances for the next few years. George's breakthrough season was 1925-26 when he played 25 times, followed by season 1926-27 when he was selected no fewer than 37 times, and also scored 13 goals. Not much fancied at Villa he moved away to Derby and won a couple of England caps (scoring two on his debut against France). He retired in 1936 and later became manager of Huddersfield.
