Played for Villa: 1947
Position: Left back
Appearances: 15
Apart from his professional statistics, not much is known of Merseysider, Roy Guttridge (whose real name was Ron). So little-noted was he that his only collectors' card had his name mis-spelled as Gutteridge, and his first initial given as W - which stood for his middle name. He is known to have played for a few non-League sides before appearing on Villa's radar half-way through World War II, when he starts to turn up on war-time team sheets. The back-story is not known. 15 senior appearances in 1947 (bridging two seasons) was his contribution, and he moved on to Brighton, then in the Third Division South, the following year. He only played 17 times for them, his spell in the limelight brief.
