Played for Villa: 1912-1921
Position: Right half
Appearances: 87
A star for Arsenal, Ducat was snapped up by Villa when the Gunners were in financial trouble, but despite the promise of great things, this England international (in both football and cricket!) had to wait years to etch his name into the Villa hall of fame. Badly injured in his fourth match for Villa, Ducat missed almost two seasons out and was just rediscovering his form when World War I stopped normal play. Ducat turned out for Villa in some war games but came back to prominence in season 1919-20, playing 26 times in the league and captaining the FA Cup-winning side which sealed Villa's record sixth success. Ducat also re-established himself as an England player after a decade out of the national side, but 29 league games in season 1920-21 proved to be his last hurrah. He went on to play for, and manage, Fulham. Ducat died of a heart attack aged 56, while playing cricket at Lords.
