Played for Villa: 1919-1930
Position: Outside left
Appearances: 390
Dorrell was signed from Sunday school football in 1921, one of a raft of post-war discoveries who would shape Villa's 1920s. His finest hour came after Harold Edgley broke a leg just weeks before the 1920 FA Cup Final, giving Dorrell a chance to play, and to grab himself a winner's medal. He was back in 1924 to claim a runner-up medal, and proceeded to play (and score) for England. While not an especially prolific scorer - he never got into double figures in any of his 11 seasons at Villa - he ended up with 65 goals to his name. A brief spell at Port Vale followed, after which he came back to Villa Park as a coach. He died in 1942.
