Played for Villa: 1931-1936
Position: Full back
Appearances: 138
The diminutive Danny Blair had to earn the respect of doubtful Villa fans as he went up against 1st Division strikers twice his size. He succeeded. A performance against Chelsea's Scottish international, Hughie Gallacher, in 1933 is said to be a turning point, as Blair started to win over the home crowds with his fearsome tackling. He consolidated his place at the club over a number of seasons but was one of several causalities when Villa attempted to overhaul their relegation-threatened squad in 1936. His number 2 shirt was taken by Tom Griffiths and Blair was sold to Blackpool, where he finished his career and lived locally for the rest of his life. Blair also represented Scotland eight times.
